Kerry Ramirez is a Texas artist working in oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, pencil, and multi-media collage. Her works include fine art, ceramics, fiber, sculpture, and jewelry.
I am inspired by the Texas desert and semi-tropical lands of the Gulf Coast. I love the colors of the sand, sea and sky. I love the brilliant colors of the desert and lush gardens in turquoise, magenta, sage, purple and rose. I am drawn to the deep purple of the amethyst and the cool blue of aquamarine, the fiery red of ruby, the satisfying green of emerald, and the honey gold of amber. I am drawn to the Old World Masters and can spend hours in the Museum of Fine Art gazing at the colors of Monet. I yearn to set that color free in my own interpretations of life.
I love the way paint feels in my hands. I love the richness and smell of oils and the sparkle of pastels. I love to move the paint on the canvas with a knife and with my hands.
My work explores realism and abstract themes in both texture and body. My paintings incorporate drawings with color in a mixed media approach, including acrylic, watercolor, colored pencil, pen and ink, pastel, and oil. This blend of contemporary with traditional style encourages the viewer to see and feel the art in an array of tactile sensations, exploring everyday life, past and present, from a woman's perspective.
I hope that my work evokes the same feeling of romance for those who purchase my artwork as I feel in creating it.
